Server Rules
Redmumble gives everyone a free voice server. These rules exist so one server cannot consume the capacity that everyone else shares.
No continuous or unattended audio relaying
Servers are for people talking to each other. A client that transmits audio continuously, around the clock, without anyone present is not permitted. That includes radio gateways, music or streaming bots, and any client left transmitting with voice activation disabled.
In plain terms: if your client is sending audio nearly all of the time for days on end, it will be disconnected and blocked from that server. A single continuous stream costs roughly as much bandwidth per month as several hundred people having actual conversations.
Being connected around the clock is fine. Idle clients cost us nothing and are welcome to stay online indefinitely. It is sustained transmission that is the problem, not sustained presence.
What happens if a client breaks this rule
Detection looks at how much a client actually transmits over a rolling three-day window, not at how long it has been connected. A client that crosses the line is sent a message explaining why, disconnected, and blocked from that server.
The first response is aimed at the client, not at you. A single blocked client leaves your account and your server untouched — you can carry on using the server normally.
Coming back with a new client
A block applies to the specific client that broke the rule. Reconnecting with a freshly generated one to resume the same continuous stream is treated as evading the block, not as a new client.
Where that happens repeatedly, the response moves up to the account: the account is suspended and its server is removed. A suspended account cannot sign in or create a new server. This is not where we want to end up, and it only follows a pattern of returning after being blocked — it is never the response to a first offence.
Stopping the continuous transmission is always enough to avoid this. The rule is about the behaviour, not about who you are.
If you believe a client was blocked, or an account suspended, in error, get in touch and we will look at it.
Everything else
Do not use Redmumble for anything illegal, and do not use it to harass people. Servers that go unused are removed automatically — see your dashboard for the current inactivity window.
